ScoutSpent two days camped in spot 51 in June. It was peaceful, we spent time at the lake, and it was nice to be able to explore the cities around. The spa up there is wonderful and a must see. The campgrounds were clean, the restrooms were nice, and the showers were wonderful. This site has laundry! We forgot to grab laundry detergent but it’s a great location and a good site.
LegendThis is a very quiet and remote area. The campground and town are both very calm and quiet. The beach is very nice and the water in Wilderness Lake is clean. There is an older playground that our kids still enjoyed, and an old abandoned railroad line that is now a trail. Town is tiny with a store or two . About a mile down the road to Lake Superior shoreline- there's a cool little park with a boardwalk and place to launch kayaks. The full hookup sites were nice and long and well spaced, but they were dirt so could be muddy in the rain. There were a lot of mosquitoes, but we kept them at bay with tiki torches and bug spray. Nice place to chill.
LegendThe only campground in the city of Marquette, immersed in a network of trails and parks, only a mile from the big lake, and 3 miles to Presque Isle and Black Rocks.... This campground has a lot to offer. It has two playgrounds, a small beach on the river basin, and immediate access to both paved and mountain bike trails. The full hookup sites from 61 to 80ish are large and in a nice canopy of mature trees. The place is paved and so are the fhu sites. Great place!
TravelerNice new campground, still under construction at our time of visit so navigating through to your site is a bit difficult. Note that you can hear the highway from this site. But nice campground if you want to stay close to Marquette.
TravelerThe drive was pretty rough. My F150 with a truck camper made for a long, slow drive. If the pot holes were filled with water, my feet would have gotten wet😬. Once to the point, the views were spectacular. More people were there than expected, but the sites were far enough apart to enjoy some solitude. Camping on Lake Superiors shore is a must, and this is the place to do it.
GuidePulled in. Most spots filled with semi permanent trailers and everyone had a generator. Pretty place but not for us.
GuideI tried to get to this campsite back in 2022, but that failed horrendously. I'm at site 3 easy access to the river not deep over here, you can post your chair in the river and not get your bum wet. Fire ring was clean of garbage, the vault toilets were clean and well stocked. Park service does their rounds almost every day. There is a trash bin at the entrance. Looks like it'll be a paid site in the future. The afternoon after I made this post the park service put up a new sign. The area is now $16 a night.
TravelerAwesome spot right on the waters of Lake Superior. Absolutely gorgeous sunsets and sunrises. The drive out is manageable is about any car, four wheel drive helps if you decide to go deeper down the road.
RangerLong windy road into the the campground resulting in a peaceful area. The lake was nice and there was a small beach. Enjoyed listening to the sandhill cranes every morning.
