TravelerWe’ve been here several times and it’s one of our favorites. However, there are a lot of bugs, some biting, this time of year. We will definitely be back but will avoid May and June. AT&T reception is good. Good Ranger presence too.
TravelerWe were looking for a campground around Mackinac Island and found this little gem. Our camp host was lovely, and the sites were spacious and well-kept. We were one of 3 groups in the entire campground, so it was a quiet stay with little interaction with others. We took a nice stroll over the bridge and through the pine forests. Close enough to gas stations and grocery stores, but still quiet.
GuideBooked a site day of in middle of May, and got a fantastic “walk-in” site overlooking the bay. When we were there the midges were swarming so it was a bit buggy. But the views were great and site was apart from the others, the walk in was very brief and vault toilet not far away.
TravelerGreat camp ground very well run. Great camp store, if you forgot it they probably got it. Build a fire in one of the many fire pits on the lake shore and watch the spectacular sun set and the bridge light up! If we are ever back up this way we will stay again.
ScoutQuaint place with on-river sites and a dumpster/well. Good stars at night but river can be noisy to some. Definitely rustic for the most part.
LegendNice campground, friendly staff. The campground I stayed in had grass sites with picnic tables and fire ring. Central hydrants. “Kitchen Sink” for use at the latrine. The individual shower stalls are very clean and can get a little steamy. There is an easy trail through the park that takes you to two overlooks. St Ignace is a few minutes away.
It’s a toss up, nice weather = midges, cold weather = wind and cold. My first day was cold, rainy and windy. Second day was nice and sunny.
Scoutif you go there it’s mostly cedar and the swarms of skeeters are pretty bad, we did not stay we moved on just be aware
TravelerPaved roads good for bike riding. Nice and level site. Well maintained grounds, with a fire pit and picnic table. State park, so no WiFi. AT&T is 1 bar. Restroom and showers are updated and clean.
